It's early June as I write this. By the time you read it, our EWISP and Fellows scholarships will be deter-mined, with announcements of ASIST award recipients soon to follow. And we will be putting the final touches on plans for an exciting Reading Rally event at LCAM2007. Each brings rewards to students of all ages and fulfillment to those involved through organizational efforts to provide the financial support for these programs.
These are the Business/Career/Development Program (B/C/DP) vehicles through which we deliver service to our communities. These programs touch lives and hold the potential for

changing lives: for the EWI representative who is pursuing educational goals; the adult student who is most often at an emotional transition in life; the high school student who is standing at the threshold of life's journey; the elementary student whose potential is beginning to take shape.
These EWI programs do make a difference.
We cannot know the full impact these programs have – we can only imagine what they might be. That's because, in addition to the students, any one of a number of individuals may be touched and influenced by them. It might bean an EWI committee member, the parent of a student, a teacher, a firm executive, an adult student's children, or someone in the community that reads about a program. But we don't need to know the far-reaching impacts in order to take great pride in our programs and literacy initiative as they offer remark-able opportunities for us to be involved where we live and work each day. Yes, service to community matters.
